Giovanni Perez

Latin GRAMMY nominated Flutist and producer Dr. Giovanni Pérez is the Assistant Professor of Global Music and Flute at Liberty University where he teaches applied flute lessons, music production, songwriting, improvisation, global music, entrepreneurship and collaborates in different projects.

 

As a composer, his music has been performed in the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Lee University in Tennessee , National Flute Association, Slippery Rock University, International Clarinet Association, International Double Reed Society, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, University of Arkansas, and Turkey.

 

Dr. Pérez has traveled the US, Turkey, Puerto Rico and Finland offering masterclasses and workshops in improvisation and contemporary music. Dr. Pérez completed his doctoral degree with Carol Wincenc and Ray Anderson at Stony Brook University. Dr. Pérez is a founding member of the Victory Players, a Pierrot ensemble that commissions music from minority/under-represented composers. Dr. Pérez is endorsed by London-based flute company Trevor James.


Ji Weon Ryu

Admired for her “pure poetry” and “beautiful technique and sound” (NFA Chronicle), Ji Weon Ryu is the Principal Flute of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra since 2019 and is the first Asian wind principal of their history and first Korean member of the century to join the orchestra. She has also served as the Principal Flute of the Albany Symphony Orchestra since 2017. 


Ji Weon has performed with distinguished ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic, Chautauqua, Princeton, and Syracuse Symphonies, and the Verbier Festival Orchestra and has been a soloist with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul Chamber Orchestra, and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. As a soloist, and chamber and orchestral musician, she has performed in venues including Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Hall, Dvorak Hall (Prague), The John F. Kennedy Center, Musikverein (Vienna), and Seoul Arts Center.


With unparalleled control of her tonal palette, Ji Weon has won First Prize at the 2017 Artur Balsam Duo Competition, the 2016 New York Flute Club Competition, and the 38th National Flute Association Soloist Competition along with the Best Performance of Newly Commissioned Piece Award, and has received the 2017 Young Artist Award from the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation in South Korea.


Ji Weon has performed extensively as a recitalist and a chamber musician all over the US and South Korea. She regularly tours with the Frisson, an "explosive" New York City-based chamber ensemble as a founding member, and is a co-founder and the artistic committee of the Ensemble Blank, a contemporary group based in Seoul that strives to push boundaries of classical music repertoire and searches for unconventional concert venues.


In addition to her appearance on stage, Ji Weon is also committed to teaching. She has given guest teaching and masterclasses at The Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Berklee College of Music, Louisiana State University, Louisiana Flute Society’s Festival, Loyola University, Tulane University, and the University of Kansas. Currently, she is a visiting Flute Instructor at Louisiana State University.


Apart from sharing classical music with audiences, Ji Weon enjoys arranging and performing pop tunes at the popular Instagram/YouTube channel, JHM Jams. One of the videos she featured has over 52k views and has been recognized by entertainment studio, Lionsgate and fashion magazine, Glamour.


Ji Weon holds a Master of Music degree in orchestral performance from Manhattan School of Music and both a Bachelor of Music degree and an Accelerated Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School. Her principal teachers include Robert Langevin, Carol Wincenc, and Young Ji Song.



Stephen Clark

Recipient of the 2016 Sir James Galway Rising Star Award, 1st Prize winner of the 2018 IMKA Music Competition and 1st Prize winner of the 2018 Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition, Stephen Clark has given over a thousand performances across all 7 continents and made his New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall in 2018. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Royal Northern College of Music and in Switzerland with Sir James Galway. Stephen is the Flute Professor at Northwestern State University.

 

Regularly invited to perform at flute festivals across the globe, he has given solo recitals at the Conventions of the British Flute Society, the National Flute Association of America, the Sir James Galway Flute Festival in Switzerland as well as the Florida Flute Convention, Wisconsin Flute Festival, Mid-South Flute Festival and Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention in the USA. He has been the Guest Artist at countless flute festivals, flute days and events in the United Kingdom, United States, Europe, Asia and Australia. Solo engagements have taken him to over 120 countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Turkey, Israel, Finland, Canada, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Croatia, Thailand, Germany, Netherlands, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Egypt, China, Libya, Malta, Poland, Lithuania, Japan, Australia, Belgium, France, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Jordan, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Seychelles, Maldives, Malaysia, Brazil, Norway, Iceland, Korea, Peru, Vietnam, Greece, Slovenia and the U.S.A. He has performed as solo flute player alongside several popular music artists including Annie Lennox, Andrea Bocelli and pop band McFly. As an orchestral player, Stephen has held principal flute positions and performed as Guest principal flute with major symphony orchestras of the United Kingdom, United States, Portugal, Ireland and Vietnam. He has worked with many significant conductors including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Neeme Järvi, Sir Simon Rattle, Jorma Panula and Sir Mark Elder.

In addition to his performing schedule, Stephen is invited frequently to give masterclasses around the world. In the past 12 months Stephen has given masterclasses at the Universities of Washington State, Idaho, Montana, Alabama, Western Missouri, South Illinois Edwardsville, Wisconsin-Whitewater, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Northern Colorado, Weatherford College Texas, West Virginia, Arkansas and the Cadek Conservatory. Recently he has given his first class for ToneBase. Stephen has been Sir James Galway’s teaching assistant since 2017.

Stephen has recorded for Classic FM, Amadeus, Linn Records and for the Naxos label and broadcast live on Northern Ireland’s 7FM and BBC Radio 3. He has released 2 solo albums on the Voyage Record Label. In 2015, Stephen was accepted into the Recording Academy of America and is now a voting member in the Grammys. Stephen has appeared on screen as the flute player in both the BBC's period drama series "Desperate Romantics" and ITV's feature film "Miss Marple - The Secret of Chimneys". He is author of “The Flute Gym” - a manual for advanced flute players.

In 2023, Stephen received a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Alabama. He is a Yamaha Artist and plays exclusively on a 14k gold handmade Yamaha flute.


John Price

Dr. John Price is Assistant Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy at Northwestern State University. Price has won prizes at the Utah State University Piano Festival, the Donna Turner Smith Piano Competition, the USU Concerto Competition and been an artist-in-residence at the Baltimore Piano Festival. As a collaborative pianist, he has worked with the Heifetz International Music Institute, University of Oklahoma Opera, the OU Summer String Academy and Tulsa Opera. Recent collaborative performances include an NSU faculty recital with cellist Paul Christopher and a guest artist recital with Christopher Adkins, principal cellist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

 

As a clinician, he has presented at the MTNA Collegiate Chapters Symposium, the Louisiana Music Teachers Association Conference and the MTNA/National Piano Foundation Remarkable Resources series. Upcoming engagements include the Frances Clark Center’s Inspiring Artistry series and the National Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy Forum.


Tucker Uebersax

Tucker Uebersax is a first year Masters student studying Flute Performance at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. He currently studies flute with Dr. Stephen Clark and formerly studied with Morgann Davis at Millersville University of Pennsylvania.

 

Tucker has had the privilege of participating in masterclasses with many prominent flautists including David DiGiacobbi and Dr. James Hall. Additionally, Tucker was a finalist in the 2023 Louis Vyner Solo Competition hosted in Lancaster, PA. Tucker held the principal piccolo and principal flute chairs with the Millersville University Orchestra where he had the opportunity to play major works such as Ravel’s Concerto in G and Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto no. 4.

 

Following his expected graduation in 2026, Tucker plans to pursue a DMA in Flute Performance. Additionally, he plans to pursue a career as a studio musician for film and returning to a classroom to inspire the next generation of musicians.


Parrel Appolis

Parrel Appolis is a flute performer from Knoxville, Tennessee. He is currently a Graduate Assistant in the flute studio of Dr. Stephen Clark at Northwestern State University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in flute performance from the University of Tennessee, where he studied under Maria Fernanda Castillo. His other major teachers include Jill Bartine of the Knoxville Symphony.   

 

As a flute instructor, his students have achieved success across all levels of primary and secondary education, and have placed in regional and state ensembles. As a performer, he has played with many ensembles, including the Knoxville Opera, Knoxville Symphony, and the inaugural International Pride Orchestra in San Francisco. His musical endeavors have taken him to all corners of the country, performing in locations on the east coast, west coast, and in the Midwest. He has been a competition winner and finalist for many organizations such as the Florida Flute Association, Texas Flute Society, UT Symphony Orchestra, MTNA, and more. He has performed in masterclasses for many outstanding artists including Brian Luce, Eva Amsler, and Grammy-nominated composer/flutist Valerie Coleman. In 2022, he was named as a member of the NFA’s Young Artist Mentorship Program, under the mentorship of Brandon Patrick George of Imani Winds. Parrel is a recipient of the John Philip Sousa Band Award and the Gerald W. Barnes Woodwind Award. He is an active member of Sphinx, an organization dedicated to providing resources to Black and Latin-American musicians.  

 

Following his master’s study, he plans on pursuing an artist diploma, and creating an expansive private studio of flute students of all ages.  


Cecilia Linares
